“impose war, sustain it.”

On Imperialism - Raza Ali Hasan
Proxies—pertinent, prominent, proximate—
impose war, sustain it.
The Empire ever absent and seemingly elsewhere—
evasive, persuasive, pervasive. Things are
this complicated.
The Beverage
The Gentrifier’s Dilemma
Today, I bring you our very first submitted beverage, which comes to us from Emma Roller. If you don’t get her newsletter, it is FAR more legit than this one. So subscribe. Also if you are a media power-that-be, you should hire her. She is now also qualified to be a cocktail writer based on this newsletter submission.
This cleverly named cocktail is basically a shandy spritzer of sorts, which I am Here For on a gorgeous spring day.
(A Note On Shandy: REAL shandy (which my parents let me try in England as a teenager) is GOOD: beer and lemonade. Leine’s Shandy of any type is GROSS. Radlers are similar spritzer/shandy and GOOD. More to come on the shandy front in this newsletter over the summer, but for now, just know this: I DO NOT SUPPORT LEINENKUGEL BEVERAGES OF ANY KIND.)
Here is the information I have:
Ingredients:
Potter’s Craft Cider Grapefruit Hibiscus
La Croix Pamplemousse (NB this is the only La Croix flavor with a French name. It infuriates me)
Ice
Combine, serve in a Green Bay Packers pint glass with a Vince Lombardi quote on it. (Assuming this is necessary from the photo I received of this cocktail.)
To stay true to the spirit of this drink and its name, all ingredients should be purchased at Whole Foods.
Also, this cider is not available in Madison, so I will probably go nose around the Whole Foods to see what similar ciders are available. Keep it annoying and on trend, Fellow Old Millennials.
I also want to note that I do not support the “Rosé in 40s” thing. I know that seems like something I would be into, but I am not.
