“stumbling toward a future”

December 31st - Richard Hoffman | Fall In Mexico

The Poem
December 31st - Richard Hoffman

All my undone actions wander
naked across the calendar,

a band of skinny hunter-gatherers,
blown snow scattered here and there,

stumbling toward a future
folded in the New Year I secure

with a pushpin: January’s picture
a painting from the 17th century,

a still life: Skull and mirror,
spilled coin purse and a flower.

The Beverage
Fall In Mexico

I have spent many years going to Boundary Stone, a good bar, but lately, I've been feeling a little ancient surrounded by the 22-year-olds of Bloomingdale. SO I was gladdened by my trek up to their new sister spot in 16th Street Heights, Moreland's Tavern. A very good spot!! I enjoyed two cocktails and two glasses of wine.

The best one was called Fall In Mexico! The ingredients are Altos Reposado, Del Maguey Vida mezcal, cinnamon syrup, and apple shrub. I will go back and order it again. I plan on becoming a regular.

Happy New Year.
